The doctrine of Trinity that emerges from such severe compression is a Triune Lord set forth and anchored solely to the “economy,” the biblical account of our salvation, achieved in Jesus Christ. We know God in His Economy, it is often said, or not at all. Indeed, some have advanced the claim that God can be known only as Trinity. Bare monotheism is taken to be a shame phrase. All this makes a book on the inner Life of God, the “Immanent Trinity,” to be odd, impossible, and dogmatically unlicensed.
